  1. Well i hop i have the right forum, I was wondering if anyone can tell me a proggy which could rip the audio from a wmv file and convert it into mp3 or wav. I tried to use Virtual Dub 1.3c but it wouldnt open the WMV file.

    Thanx guys and gals.

  2. I believe Real Jukebox Plus 8 can do it. Though I cannot guarantee it as I have not tried with that type of file.

You can use TMPGEnc with an external audio encoder, e.g. lame. Load the :wmv as video (and audio) source. Select option > enviromental setting > external tool > external Layer-3 audio encoder. Browse Lame or your favourite Layer-3 encoder. Check "stream type" audio only, press settings and configure the encoder settings.

  5. So which produces better quality Audio in TMPGenc? The external lame encoder or TMPGencs built in one?

The built in encoder is a MPEG-1 Layer-2 encoder. Chewie asked for a MPEG-1 Layer-3 encoder.

  7. But I read in the readme that came with the Lame codec is capable of layer 2 encoding if specified. Would it be better to use Lame codec, or the one built in TMPGenc? Is this possible? I have heard TMPGenc is not very good at audio resampling.

I can not see an option to encode to MPEG-1 Layer2 with lame. Probably the best free MPEG-1 Layer2 encoder is toolame. But TMPG's built in encoder isn't that bad. But I agree, TMPG's weakness is resampling. Here I suggest to use SSRC as external resampler.
