  3. Files produced with x264 can suffer playback problems with some devices, if certain settings are used (or not used).

    I have seen DXVA profiles for x264, which are simply a bunch of settings which will ensure the final stream can be decoded properly using a video card's built in hardware decoder and/or other standalone media players.

  4. x264 is an h.264 encoder. DXVA is Microsoft's API for using the graphics card to decode video (rather than the CPU). DXVA only supports a subset of h.264 features. x264 DXVA would be a program's presets for producing x264 encoded video within the DXVA spec. Xvid4PSP, for example, has x264 DXVA presets.
