  1. Hi, last night I downloaded the trial version of Vegas Video 3 and when I converted the AVI movie into MPEG. I noticed that under Template menu, it has other options along with SVCD template and MPEG2 template. I was thinking that SVCD is MPEG2 format. When I selected MPEG2 over SVCD I didn't notice any change in settings. Can someone explain to me why they have two different templates? Thanks

try to see MPG2 as a codec and
SVCD a standard of settings that use de MPG2 (codec)
you could have a mpg2 file but it is not a SVCD compliant
    get some guides

  3. MPeg2 is a way of encoding video (it's a superset if MPeg1).

SVCD is a very specific subset of MPeg2 encoding.

SVCD specifies that the MPeg2 must be 480 x 480/576 and that it must
have video less than 2560 Kbps (or some number close to this), and that the audio format must be 224 kbps or less (and I believe the audio has to be an MP2 stream)

DVD is a different MPeg2 format that has different legal sizes, different video and audio maximum bitrates, and can have other types of audio in the audio stream.
