Just use coaxial or optical digital cables. Works fine with my setup. As long as your receiver accepts the format.

If you don't have an external digital audio jack, most newer MBs have the connector on the MB itself and you just need the internal cable to a PC slot adapter. You would look for S/PDIF on the MB.

If you are also using HDMI, you need to change the audio output to the S/PDIF output.

    They look like this:

thanks redwudz. we are trying to get master hd audio over hdmi video card and most cards do not state that they do this. we are also using windows media center with my movies plugin and total media theater 5 and this doesnt seem to show us on blurays that master hd audio output option.

i have read that ati hd boards 4xxx and 5xxx do support this audio option over hdmi. I went ahead and ordered a 5670 ati board in hopes that we can get this to work.

is total media theater our bottleneck here?

does powerdvd work inside windows media center like total media theater?

I don't believe PowerDVD works with Media Center, but not sure. I don't use audio over HDMI at all. Only a few video cards pass that over HDMI. You may need to connect to the S/PDIF connector on your motherboard and run a cable to the video card. I run all my audio from my players, HTPC, and PC directly to my surround sound audio amp.
