    can i get em to play in colour, and how come photo albums i make in nero dont work ?

    Sounds like it could be a format issue. i.e. you are playing a pal disc on NTSC hardware or vice versa. If this is the case try converting the VCD to the format of your hardware and see if this solves the problem. Does it play in colour on your PC ?
