I was in the process of converting my old hi8 tapes to DVD using my old Sony CCD-TR805E camcorder and a Canopus ADVC 300. I was using the data code function of the camcorder to momentarily display the recording date of each group of scenes by pressing the “date” button twice . This displays the recording date for a short time on the captured video on my PC. All was proceeding well until the camcorder developed a fault in the tape mechanism which was terminal.
I have a Sony EVO-9800P which successfully plays the Hi8 tapes for capture through the ADVC300. The only problem is I cant find a way of displaying the recording date as I was doing with my old HI8 camcorder.
I believe that Sony’s Rewriteable Consumer Time Code (RCTC) used on their Hi8 camcorders is different to the 8mm Professional time code used on the EVO-9800P but I was hoping to somehow use the EVO to briefly display the Hi8 data code as before.
Does anybody know if this possible, if so , how do you do it? I don’t want to buy another Sony Hi8 camcorder if the EVO will do the job.
