i've got a tape from a customer they swear has an hour of video on all recorded with the same jvc dv-101. everything i've tried to capture it with the video stops at 2 minutes. i ff'd through the entire rest tape and nada. there isn't even any timecode on the tape after 2 minutes. i would at least expect a timecode if it had been recorded to. anyone have any experience with disappearing video? or should i just send it back gratis and say there must have been a cam malfunction?

Head clog could be the only thing I can think of. If you rule it out on your end, perhaps the culprit was the camcorder. Either that or the client THOUGHT they were recording, but had it in Pause.

cleaned and tried 2 sony decks, a sony cam and a canon cam. same on them all.... the no time code on the tape after 2 minutes sort of seals it for me. now to appease the customer who's always right
