  1. Hi guys, I'm working on a PAL dvd project. The problems started when I imported my subtitle file (correct) in Maestro and I noticed the more time passes the more subtitles goes out of sync, so i realized that Maestro timeline was showing wrong values. For example 1:30:20 in Maestro and 1:32:20 with other software. Why 2 seconds more? How can I solve that issue?

SpruceUp and Maestro both used to give me weird issues like this, so I stopped using them.
Why are you using such obsolete software, anyway? Those tools are from 2000.
I long ago moved to 2005's Ulead DVD Workshop 2.
Or I'll use DVD Studio Pro (what Maestro turned into later on) on a Mac system.

  3. I tried trial versions of DVDlabPro and DVD Architect-pro, but the first has serious problem with subtitles and the second has some issue with dvd structure and VTS. I will try dvd workshop.

DVDWS may require some sub conversion to a sub format that it likes, but it's friendly to sub authoring.

I don't like Lab, and Architect is quirky. No surprise here.

You are an example of someone who is going to be using more heavy-duty tools for the more-skilled and knowledgeable user. From what I recall, one main claim to fame of Spruce-Up -- other than its being free, for awhile (?), before it was retired -- was their assertion that its UI was easy enough that even kids or the semi-clueless could learn to use it rather quickly, with minimal difficulty. What basic but capable authoring tool fills that niche today ?

I've dabbled in some very limited editing, mostly with one of the Womble products, and would like to get a lot more familiar with AVIDEMUX. But my "re-authoring" has been strictly of the DVD-SHRINK variety, and my authoring-from-scratch near-zero -- unless you want to count some fooling around with Nerovision. If I was going to suddenly get serious about authoring, I'd probably start with one of the free tools, maybe DVD Styler.

When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

Spruce-Up was full of problems and crashed a lot -- not quite what I'd call a consumer app either, given the price. These days, for easy no-brains-required authoring software that any giblet-head could use, look no further than TMPGEnc Authoring Works.

There's really nothing free that is of advanced abilities within the realm of authoring. I have nothing against free tools -- in fact, I quite like them! -- but there's no reason to be so cheap as to not buy the $15 on-clearance copy of Ulead DVDWS2 from B&H. That's one heck of a deal there.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
