    Hello

I have two questions regarding capturing to MiniDV and transfer to Macintosh.

    1. Is there a professional way to capture MiniDV (Mini DV VCR Recorder).

    I know of this product:

Sony HDV Video WALKMAN GV-HD700 - digital VCR - Mini DV

I want to record a analog signal (e.g. TV) and split the signal (?) to record a "physical" backup on MiniDV and a digital recording at the same time.

    2. How much GB for 1 hour of DV?

    Thank you for your time

    Best

    L

    2. 13 GB per hour

    1. Why ? Yes, there are mini-DV decks. They are expensive for what you get. Some DV cameras can record from analogue inputs, although in the UK (and possibly elsewhere in Europe) a weird tax anomaly made this rarer that elsewhere in the world. Would I call it professional ? Not in the sense of what you are doing, because professionals wouldn't use mini-DV for this type of recording.

Analog Source (BNC) -BNC Splitter (1,2) -1: analog-digital-converter-Mac-2: Here I need a possibity to record analogue or continuously as a backup if 1 fails.
    What would you/professional use then?
I want a backup if the digital recording fails.
    Thanks!

I would use a HDD recorder/DVR. Superior running time.

However if you can get a camera with analogue to digital pass-through then you could record the analogue directly to tape while the camera passes DV through to the Mac firewire port. No need to split and risk signal loss.
