ok I am a total newb and am so confused. I am trying to view my hava platinum HD (slingbox type device), behind my colleges network which is firewalled and secure.
the thing that sling offers that hava doesnt which in my opinion is TOTALLY imporactical is the ability to change the port that the video streams through to one that is open even on secure networks like 80 or 443. The only ports that the hava streams through are UDP 56123 and UDP 1234 both of which are not open on a secure network. I know some people have been using vlc player to connect to their havas remotely becuase of a bug in the hava firmware that allows you to view through rtsp. here is a quote from a poston the hava forum:
"you will see that incoming udp connections on port 56123 are forwarded to port 1234 based on the hava's mac address. Port 1234 is the real time streaming protocal default port. Using vlc on your lan you can connect to the have using rtsp://hava ip address:1234. Opening the port 1234 on your router and attempting a connection based on your wan ip should work but I have yet to get it to do so."
that last part about attempting a connection based on your wan ip....does that apply if your hava is behind a wireless router? and would that really work? has anyone done it? what I did was I went into vlc player clicked "open network stream" and typed rtsp://<the wan ip of my router>:1234 and the screen comes up with the red text saying "connection failed" and "you input can't be opened"
if anyone has connected remotely through vlc player before successfully, could you please give me a walkthrough of how you did it? if uve never even heard of the hava/monsoon line, then you probably won't know what the heck I am talking about.
thanks.
