Do you care about achievements (360) and trophies (ps3) in video games?

I do to a certain extent. I like to occasionally hunt for or accomplish some oddball achievement/trophy (yes i have both a ps3 and 360). But for the most part I don't obsess over them.

Though I do have a 5,020 gamerscore now for my 360 account. I am proud of that. Its taken awhile to get there and it could be higher but I am not crazy enough to try to hunt down every last achievement.

The one exception I did have was Assassins Creed 2 on the ps3. It was the one and only time I got a 100% trophy/achievement completion on any game. I did have the strategy guide but it was such an incredible game I wanted to spend as much time in that world as I could. I had downloaded the expansion levels for the basic game (I didn't have the ultimate edition that had them already). I completed EVERYTHING except for the damned hangglider addon mission. I had like a 99.95% synch rate - but since they were the add on I was still able to get the 100% and the platinum master assassin trophy. I even got every last filthy feather and treasure in the game

Most other games I haven't gotten anywhere near that level of completeness. But I do like it when i get the game completion acheivement or trophy.

So what about you? Do you care about these "awards"

I don't think the WII has any such system that I know of.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. When I first got my 360, I put my all into trying to get every trophy/achievement for the few games that I had.
This enthusiasm only lasted for a few days, as that is how long it took me to figure out that they had no bearing on the outcome, or story development, of the games themselves.
Repeatedly replaying the same sequences of events in order to obtain a vast number of trophies (ie: perfect score) is not my style/ preferred genre.
It's especially frustrating for an old dude like me, as I no longer have expert-level action-gaming skills*
In other words, I play RPGs for the story, not the High Score.

That's not to say that getting a high score is a bad thing.
The people who enjoy it should go for it.
Ya'll get bragging rights that are backed up with records.

I just choose to opt out.

*With some exceptions; I can still pwn every Zelda game that is not on the Wii or DS or CD-i... but now I'm getting a bit OT...
