  1. Hello,

I'm looking for a converter that will convert an flv file straight to dv avi. All the converters that I have come across will only convert an flv to an xvid or divx avi and not directly to a dv avi. That is a problem for me because I edit in Sony Vegas and Sony Vegas will NOT open xvid or divx. I really do not want to be converting the flv two or more times just to get the damn thing in Vegas. I have done some research and found a few programs that claim to do it, but don't know if they are reliable or a rip off. The two that I found is Riverpast and Soft29. Are these any good, or are they scams? Someone, please help.

  2. sony vegas will open a divx or xvid avi , it works for both vegas 8 and 9 pro for me . But they are not recommended for editing, because they are lossy and your flv's are probably not the best quality to begin with

in order to convert to dv-avi (and work properly in an editor) it has to be interlaced and resized to either PAL or NTSC standards (720x480 or 720x576). It's unlikely you have those dimensions (and you probably don't want to letterbox or pillarbox), it's unlikely you have a 50p or 60p flv file to generate interlace, and it's more unlikely you have an interlaced flv in the first place

the other option is to use uncompressed avi , lossless compression (like huffyuv or lagarith) , or lossy compression like mjpeg to import

not sure about those commercial programs you mentioned, but you could use avidemux to convert to various formats (if for some reason you can't import xvid)
