I'm trying to make a music video that combines two voice parts sung by the same person (happens to be me).
I'm not sure how professional studios do this kind of stuff, but my approach will be very primative, as follows using a home video camera.
(1) I will take a video of me singing the melody part (voice part 1).
(2) I will take another video of me singing the harmony part (voice part 2) while listening to the audio from step 1 thru a headphone so that the beat is synch'd
(3) At this point, I will have two videos of me singing each voice parts.
So, hopefully, you see where I'm going. I want to take the video from step 2 and insert into the video from step 1 (preserving the audios from each). Then the end result should be one video with the blended voices.
Also, if it's any easier, I don't mind not having the video from step 2, as long as I can have the audio from step 2 inserted into the video from step 1. Is this a feature/function that should exist on the software that came with my home video? I'm not home now, so I can't look it up.
Lastly, is the method I described above the best way to do this? Or is there another common way people do kind of stuff?

You can do this in VideoStudio using overlay.

Or, do it like the pros do it...
1) Record the song parts using a real audio program and a good microphone and put them together with a multi-track audio system. You can use Audacity, Reaper, or N-Track (my favorite).
2) Then, play that sound file back and video yourself pretending to sing along.
3) Do step #2 three or four times moving the camera around so you get different angles.
4) Use a good video-editor program. Load all the different videos, delete ALL the audios
5) Load the original sound file you generated.
6) Fade/cut back and forth between the different views you videoed.
Yes, it's more work than you started asking but the result will be SO much better and so much more interesting to watch. -
Thank you all for the suggestions.
Byteguy, I think I will have to work up to what you described, but it is helpful to know that's how the pros do it.
