Hello-
for some reason I cannot locate either mencoder or mplayer files. As far as I know I downloaded them- I saw the terminal open- but when ever i push the locate button on the self installer these files remain missing. Those 2 files remain red.
i'm pulling my hair out now as it's been more then 2 hours and I cannot seem to get this installed.

The external binaries (mpeg2enc, mencoder, mplayer) should be downloaded separately from the ffmpegX application.
After downloading mencoder and mplayer (together in ffmpegXbinaries20060307.zip), you should find them in a folder called 'ffmpegXbinaries20060307' in your Downloads folder. Use the Locate buttons to tell the installer where that is. Let the installer copy the binary files to /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/ .Last edited by Case; 1st Feb 2010 at 12:35.

Thanks for reply Case. I've done as you suggested but I still cannot get the the mencoder and mplayer files to uncheck and change from red to black. also the folder is missing in library/application support you mentioned above. Should I start again from with a new download? I did something wrong apparently. Certainly I should not be having so much with all this new gear I have.

Does your user account have administrator privileges? ffmpegX wants this. (See System Preferences > System > Accounts.)
The installer will create a folder 'ffmpegX' in /Library/Application Support/ to put its stuff in (more than just the external binaries).
Note: this /Library folder is NOT the Library in your Home (user account) folder, but the Library folder in the root of the boot volume.
Do you get any error message after pressing the Install button?
Check the file sizes of mencoder (15.9 MB or 16,655,780 bytes) and mplayer (15.1 MB or 15,869,784 bytes).

The files are located in the Application Support ffmpegX file but are not the size you mentioned: mencoder is 5.2MB, mplayer-5.2MB. FYI these are the rest:gocr-283KB, mp2enc-246, mpeg2enc-504KB,
subtitle- 25KB, tcextract- 287KB, vxdxbuild- 590KB, vcdxgen- 569KB, yuvdenoise 115KB, yuvscaler 315KB. Also 4 .sed folders.
I do have administer privileges and they are enabled. I've noticed that the terminal window (Terminal-tcsh-80x24) does not close either and when I try a drop down asks: "Do you want to close this window? Closing this window will terminate the running processes: login, tcsh." Maybe I'm not completing the installation process by keeping this open? but I'm a a little uncomfortable with Terminal and so I've not closed this window.
hope all this info helps.

Downloading ffmpegXbinaries20060307.zip should get you a 14.4 MB ZIP archive, which expands to a folder with the two binaries of 15.9 and 15.1 MB. The installer should not alter their file sizes.
You may close the Terminal window. "login" keeps track of who is logged in with a Terminal window, and "tcsh" is just the terminal shell itself. If these are the only two processes running, then it is just sitting idle.
