hey whats up/?i have encountered this before using sonic dvdit. here is the deal
i have two clips one is 4 hours, BUT it is only 4.0 gigs in size, it was done with a constant bitrate of 2100. i also have another clip 30 seconds with a low rate as well, both do fit on a disc. But i go through and make menus and chapters in Ulead dvd 9and it should still fit( well barely) and all is fine. i go to author the disc, put in its stats (2100 constant , 224 sound) and the damn thing says the file will be 8gigs. the only thing i have checked off is make "dvd folder".
Sonics version of this seemed to have somehow added the clip twice or saw the clip twice when it should not have. it sounds like Ulead is doing the same. i have been through this project and cannot come up with anything. Any assistance asap would greatly be appreciated--thanks

I tell DVD Workshop to create an iso image before burning to the actual disc. It rerenders the video clips and stores the result in your DVD Workshop project folder, AND creates the iso file there too.
So you actually have the finished clip twice in your project folder. If I know I'm finished with the project, I delete the video clip and just keep the iso image. -
thanks for the info. no dice though 9making an iso with folder makes the project 12gigs!!) it starts to convert the stops in the middle and crahses. I have never had a problem beofre with ulead. maybe i will just try the whole project over and see what happens

ok just did a test with the clips alone, its ulead's screwed up authoring method thats making the mess. for whatever reason since it has that "whats your dvd bitrate and audio" at the end before authoring, i tell it what my file is and it sees it as 8gigs in it's eyes. So it wont let me author the clip it stops midway, hope they iron out that bug. i know it mainly must have something to do with the running time, and not the file size which is BS

ok so i took a posters advice and had it make an iso as well as a dvd folder. Despite what Ulead said the project came out to be about 4gigs for the iso and 4 gigs for the file, not 8gigs for the folder alone.
BUT it took like 3 hours for it to master. the bulk of that was it first reading the file. Once it got through that close to 3 hrs later, vob multiplex, etc went normal. Upon playing it the main clip acts like its going to play and then does, but their is no ic and only the sound, no idea as to what screw up this is but none the less this is what i got. In case it s a pc problem i wll burn it on a dvd-rw and test it out and see whats what -
Had same crap problems with ulead too, ghetto and all, moved up to dvd maestro, which is amazing.
But, i've heard it said that when Ulead asks for bitrate, you should specify as high as possible, for if it reads your file as higher than what you specify, it will downcode it (is that a word?) This is probably what gave you the three hour encode time. So for a clip at 2100 avg bitrate, tell ulead its 8500 and it shouldnt touch it. Basically, you're settingthe maximum.
That's what i hear anyway, i just opted for dvd maestro to fix my problems.mmm....unexplained bacon...
Our extended forecast calls for flurries of passion followed by extended periods of gettin it on.
