After changing settings to maximize DVD playability on standalone DVD players, those DVDs now won't play on MacBook Pros.

Specifically, I export the MPEG-2 audio with an AC-3 stereo stream and 48 kHz sample rate, and add an AUDIO_TS file from which the ISO file is built.

Those settings allowed the burned DVD to play on the greatest number of various standalone DVD players and, up until now, all laptop computers tested. Now, however, those DVDs won't play on MacBook Pros. They will play on all PC laptops tested.

Why? and how, if possible, can I further improve my DVDs' playability on, for example, these MacBook Pros?

    Thanks.

What program did you use to author the DVDs? What are the MPEG-2 and AC-3 attributes? How did you create/encode them? You would need to give a lot more information before anyone could guess what you are doing.

The DVDs were authored on Womble's "MPEG Video Wizard - DVD."

With computer playback, software is the key - assuming, of course, that the computer can read the disc in the first place. As you say you are aiming for maximum compatibility, I would also hope that you are burning to high quality media (Verbatim/TY) otherwise everything else you have done is for nothing.

When it comes to playback though, you need a reliable player, and the right codecs. Macs are not particularly well blessed with the latter.

First thing to test then can the Macs read the disc. Can they see the file system and copy files from the DVD to the HDD.

If so, what playback software is being used ? Can the same laptops play commercial discs ? Is this a widespread issue, or just on one Mac Book ?
