    Hi all,

I am new to video editing/authoring and i stumbled on a problem wich i can't find a solution for..

i have a XSVCD file in PAL format (720x576) and it has a videobitrate of 6000Mbit/sec according to 'MPEG properties'

i burned the SVCD using Nero 5.5.2.4, all OK but when i play it in my standalone DVD player (yamaha s510) i get a stuttering image and the audio isn't in sync or doesn't sound right. According to this site the DVD player does support XSVCD...

i downloaded the XSVCD sample on this site and noticed that the videobitrate is only 3000 (NTSC format)...

now the question: is it possible and if, how to change the videobitrate to 3000??

    Thanx in advance,

    Qu'On

Most standalone DVD Players will have a problem with XSVCD's over 4MB/s bitrates. The only way you can lower the bitrate of your clip is to re-encode it.

Ok, but TMPEGEnc can't read the file (not complete and not after de-muxing) and i noticed other programs (flask, bbmpeg, virtaldub) give me a stuttery image.. do you have a solution for this ??

You didn't state which version of TMPGEnc your are using. Try one of the earlier versions, as this might work. (For some odd reason some versions don't like files that other versions like - I've given up on asking why!)

Try using either 12beta or 12 a - and don't forget to download and install the VFAPI Plugins for TMPGEnc either!!!

Here you can get hold of all older versions:

    No, it doesn't work....

btw is it tru that you have to change the videobitrate to a setting below 2500 kbps?

If you use the SVCD template it will usually be set to a VBR of 2520kb/s. You can however make your own setting. Copy the most important settings you need from the original SVCD template and then alter the bitrate to what you want. As stated in the beginning I would go beyond 3-4.000kb/s.

I found a other S510 user and he is using 2470 kbps for video and 128 kbps for audio for a XSVCD..

i will try that first and then (if it works) i'll try 2500

  14. qu_on,

did you use bbmpeg or tmpgenc to lower the bitrate?

I have the excact same problem as you, only difference is that my player is a pioneer 525.

I tried to lower the bitrate with tmpgenc12a (incl. the vfapi plugin) - but i end up with a stream that matches the specs of the one i want to downsize (720x576 in 6.000kb/s)...? What do i do wrong? I've tried a video only.. i've tried system video only.. system a+v... nothing seems to help me lowering the bitrate.

    Any suggestions/explanation to this anyone?

I used bbmpeg to change the video bitrate after i de-multiplexed the MPG file with TMPEGenc.

you have to fiddle with the settings in bbmpeg, but to create a XSVCD with lower bitrate a used it's MPEG2 video-stream settings and filled in the bitrate i wanted

right now i don't have the time to try to change the bitrate as i mentioned i would do in one of the previous postings, because i need my system for other purposes (altough i have a PIII with 384 MB RAM it still takes over 13 hours to re-encode the video stream )

    good luck

the file was a 700+ MB file, i don't know what you are encoding

    good luck, happy encoding

  18. I have a question for someone. Is there a template out there that can be loaded into TMPGEnc for making an xsvcd or a template of anykind for that manor? I currently encode from DVD as my source, if that matters any.
