"Art" for the sake of art = shit.

I wouldn't consider it art, but there are many reasons why it might make a good exhibit in a museum. Was this specifically an Art Museum? Or a Historical Museum? Or a Postal Museum?

I used to work at a small art gallery, and we'd get these, um, pieces every once in a while. We even had an old shoe turned on its side on display.

The nice thing about working there was that I could actually talk directly to the "artists" and discuss why they thought it was art. You probably won't be surprised to find that most of them just wanted to make a quick buck and were trying to find the next Pet Rock.

It was specifically at a state college art museum.

I do believe the artist (or the sender) was European. I'm starting to lean towards Medico -- The art object may be inside.
There are no problems - only chances to excel.

Some things in life I will never understand...

I knew a 27 year-old, healthy, and intelligent/educated woman who was a self-claimed "artist". And alot of her "art" was very similar in weirdness to this piece - broken statues, cans of stuff, wrappings, even melted plastic and stuff glued, etc...

She was collecting "welfare", which in Canada is government assistance (not "unemployment insurance", but a government handout for the less fortunate). This, in my opinion, should really only be for those that "need" it, otherwise it's draining on tax payers.

I asked her why she's on welfare. She said "I'm an artist". And she was serious.

Errr.... Ok. I chose not to challenge her reasoning.

I understand that art is relative, but funding this with tax money? Is there something I'm missing here? Am I some extreme right-wing capitalist pig and I don't know it?
