Having posted a photo on the message board, but the picture is too large. Does anyone know how to reduce or resize the photo for posting it on the message board or forum?

It can't be done. Once an image is created, it is fixed at whatever size it was created at. You cannot change it. Physics doesn't allow it. You will have to take the photo again at a smaller size. Perhaps with a smaller camera ?
Or you could print it out and take a photo from a long way away to make it look smaller.Read my blog here.

I use MS Paint most times. Pictures from my camera I reduce to 25% to post here. Most other graphics programs have similar settings. Our forum software will reduce them also, but I have better luck doing it with a graphics program first.
A bit more advanced program like the freeware The Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/ or my favorite, IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com/, would be good choices with many more options. Or if you have lots of cash, the payware Photoshop. -
hehe - you really don't like him do you, g.s.?
this is a video board, but i suppose a photo is at least somewhat related. any photo imaging software can resize a photo it's about as basic as it gets...... -

Some boards have extended display options, or may even resize it for you. Some will flat out reject it if it doesn't meet the criteria. -
800 X 600 pixels is usually safe everywhere. Or 1024 X 768 pixels. From there on, you might get resized by the boards software. I think Baldrick increased the max size to 900 X 700? here. Not sure about the vertical size, it may still be ~600 vertical. Above that, I believe the VH forum software will resize. Usually you will get better quality if you resize yourself.
If you R click on a image here, then select 'Properties', you should get the size of the image. -

If you have the pictures installed on your USB memory stick, you could try sawing the memory stick in half: this should halve the size of the pictures.

Once you cut it, you can't get it back, well not unless you buy the professional mending USB glue. That stuff cost some bucks!
