Hello there! After a long winter, here I am once again - I'm back lolol
The question I ask here today is quite simple; I'd like to know if it is possible to install both XviD versions (the regular one and the VAQ one) on the same PC. Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and my best wishes for a happy 2009!
    Cheers!

  2. I don't think so. But you could install Xvid VAQ and ffdshow. Then use ffdshow's Xvid encoder/decoder.

  3. I think you can, here are 2 ways you might do this:

    1) keep 2 xvidvfw versions, and install / uninstall before each use, using something like vdub that uses vfw to encode. This would be tedious.

    2) megui uses vaq patched xvid_encraw.exe (not vfw version), and you could leave the old unpatched xvidvfw registered for use in vdub; that way you could have both at the same time (but not thru the same front-end)

Thanks to all who took time to respond. How've you been jagabo? Nice to hearing from you again, friend.
What a good idea poisondeathray (lol) - I had already installed both Codecs / proggies (Xvid regular version and MEGUI that certainly uses XviD Encraw - that is definitely VAQ - as you have remarked. Thanks to make all this thing clear to me.
    Cheers,

    pmfji,
What's the difference between the VAQ and non-VAQ version?
I thought that it was an option in the xvid encoder settings?

VAQ is a port from x264, it essentially redistributes bits to flat and dark areas. It's effectiveness is not nearly as drastic as x264's version

Simply put, the non patched xvid version doesn't have it (i.e. the adaptive quantization setting uses the old algorithm)
