Does such a beast exist? I haven't found a piece of authoring software yet that doesn't stink up my CPU.

I need to be able to create a DVD from a DV AVI file.

    And it needs to work...

    Any suggestions?

  2. Firstly, what options have you tried. It would be nice to be able to not look stupid by reccomending something you already hate.

Secondly, it is not generally recomended to use the mpeg encoders bundled with some of the DVD authoring programs on the market. Encode to DVD compliant MPEG 2 with TmpGenc or CCE for best quality, then use the resulting video in your authoring package.

Third. Authoring packages I have Used.

Sonic MyDvd/Dvdit. Basic, resonably simple to use, can be fussy over what kind of mpegs you feed to it even if they are supposedly complaint. Produces basic still menus, chapter points etc. The cheaper versions (Non PE) only support PCM audio which takes up loads of space. the PE version supports stereo AC3 but I have seen sync problems with this.

Spruce Up. No longer available for purchase but trial/cracked versions floating around. No built in Encoder. Many people swear by it. Again OK for simple still menus and chapter points. Seems to be much less fussy then Sonic offerings over Dvd compliance. Will accept any Valid DVD audio format too (many only accept one or two formats)

Dazzle DVD Complete. Just started using this. Limited menu layout due to the use of templates but produces good looking screens with the option of motion menus, overtures and background audio.. So far I have found it reasonably reliable and seems to do most of what I want though not everyone agrees with this.

Plenty of others to choose from at various price points, these are just the ones I have used so far.

    Just my humble opinion

Ulead DVD Workshop. Works pretty well, nice WYSIWYG menu features.
