What is it with the recent surge in lurkers coming out these days? I'm talking about under 20 (and often under 10) post count members who have been here several years.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but many of these guys surface to ask the most mundane or over-posted questions ever. They're not even true lurkers, but more like hit-and-run(ners?).

IMHO, if you're going to stay a member of a community for half a decade or so, you can at least try to participate. Failing that, use the search link. Failing that, well..., you have simply FAILED.

  2. Maybe I'm not a lurker in the true sense (my post-count) but I fear that I may have turned into one.

The trouble I have is that I found my holy grail for my VHS conversions - got the right VCR, capture hardware etc - and am really happy with my conversions. Added to that I have come to the (nearly) end of my VHS to DVD catalogue.

Now the set up I have used doesn't appear on this site much these days and if it does, and I want to give some help, I have usually been beaten by someone else who has probably given a better answer than I ever could.

However, I still drop in to see what is going on and to see if any new software would be of any use (last new software I got was VideoReDo TV suite).

The only time I would ask any questions now is if I tried something different or new but this hasn't been much at all recently.

I hope that this doesn't mean that my time is up and I should leave.

Unfortunately (?), you use proper grammar and ask intelligent questions, so you can't join the retarded self-imposed newbie club.

At least you figured out how to do what you need, plus you at least attempt to participate. I'm talking about people who have been on the board for 4 years and ask "How do I rip a DVD?"

    1. I've seen your posts. You shouldn't be telling anyone to "lighten up" (unless it's yourself)

    2. That's fine for real newbies, but I'm talking about people who should be, after several years, veterans.

You are absolutely correct, I am trying to lighten up and not take this stuff (and myself) so seriously.

Like Cole I've also stopped capturing...
Got all my VHS conversions done and Comcast hooked me up with a free DVR (not that there's anything really worth capturing anymore).
Plus, when I took my AIW out of my HTPC to replace with one that can connect to my HDMI I found that the AIW doesn't work for shit in my office PC.
I can't remember the last time I burned a DVD, let alone did any video capture.

    Edit:
OOPPSS, I guess you can help people out still. Even though your skills and program experience will be out dated

I haven't stopped capturing, I just haven't done any VHS conversions for over a year. The last one I did was straight to a DVD Recorder just for speed. My captures just seem to all be off-air ones these days; which is why I mentioned VideoReDo TV Suite in my first post because it is so valuable. It's off-air to the DVD Recorder, edited on the PC and onto DVD-R.

Having said that, as a Vintage television programme collector, if I happen across an old pile of old off-air VHS tapes out the ADVC-50 will come...
