  1. Well, I had 7.6 installed, and I figured, well it wasn't destined for the ATI-TV Wonder PCI but it still worked, so lets give the update to 7.7 a try. Well, I knew I was in for problems when I ran the custom setup, and was given NO checkboxes to install (like TV, file player, etc..) I hit back, ran the express setup, and you guess it, error message when I try to run the TV app. So, how do we get the installer program to show us the various components to install?!??! I've got to get this working - finally, a SVCD preset!

  2. JPB1977, first of all, go to this link to discover the real way to make SVCD's with the ATI TV Wonder cards...

    In your post you said:

You will NEVER get this working. Not unless you're a hacker who understands the hardware and software. ATI's programmers might get it working, but they will NEVER, EVER do it. If you've read the posts about these cards, you know how bad their customer service is.

ATI has the prehistoric, plutocratic attitude that is common in the computer industry. They have your fifty bucks or so for the TV Wonder VE card, or the sixty or so for the stereo version. Why should they do anything more for you, as long as the software halfway works? What does it get them? Brownie points? A Get Into Heaven Free card? Fuggetaboutit! Their customer people know they're going to be fired in a week anyway, and their company will be appearing in F***edcompany.com's Happy Fun Slander Corner soon.

Your only hope of doing what you want to do is to buy WINvcr (buy it through Ebay, it's very affordable), get the proper upgrade patch for your version, follow the directions for editing the directory above, and you can't go wrong. It worked for me, Modeler_US and another gent.

  3. yup, just got my hands on PowerVCR II 3.0, and now I'm eliminating the analog element from my system. Going straight from the DV camera into the firewire into mpeg.. We'll see how it turns out though...... Got to be better than using the ATI TV Wonder as the pass-trhough right?

  4. I have an ATI TV Wonder VE card and have successfully upgraded to 7.7 (splash screen says 7.7, 48 kHz audio available) BUT ....

    When I capture set to 48 K 16 bit stereo I actually get 44k 192 kb/s stereo; I can't see an SVCD preset?!?.

Plus points are that it used to have an annoying habit of staying loaded in memory after closing which needed a kill process to get rid of. Now it seems a bit tidier.

  5. I also recently acquired the powervcr II v3.0 and it works nicely. I also use the ATI-TV wonder PCI card (one smalllll notch up from the VE card in exchange for another 15 bucks)

I also applied the registry tweeks that modeler was talking about. Before you do this, go to cyberlink's website (maker of powervcr II) and download the deluxe patch for ATI cards (or the standard if that is the powervcr II version you bought). I applied the tweeks before installing the patch and it didn't work. Miraculously, after I installed the patch, I was able to get 480 x 480 (NTSC).

I have a question about it, however, the motion detection or whatever it is in the profile area of the software. Although I set it to 3, I still get some pixelation during high motion scenes. Anybody know of a way to make that motion detector higher, or should I just reencode in TMPGenc (which is sorta a waste of time give that I fought so long and hard to get my capture card to natively capture at SVCD quality)?

    Any thoughts on that?
