Not sure if this is the right forum, "video cleaning"

I wasn't sure how to word that, but I've got a movie that I recently transferred to dvd from vhs. I did it the easy way and just recorded it to dvd from my vhs player. There were a lot of lines running through the picture and the colour is off in one segment. I realised that this was a possibility (I bought the movie as an ex-rental). Is it possible to use software to clean the picture? If it's not, if I was to clean my vhs player with the head cleaner, would that help?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I had no idea where to put it.

Sometimes you have to adjust the tracking on your vhs player.
