  1. I've been doing some dvd > vcd conversions for a few months using ripper > dvd2avi > tmpgEnc > nero. TDK and unbranded media, various burn speeds.

All play fine on a Wharfedale 750 (2nd Gen firmware) (and PC), but when I try them in my portable vcd player, they are recognised as vcd 2.0 but very few play any sound or vision, even though the cd is being read (time advances).

SOME of my vcds work in a CyberHome, but not all. Again recognised as vcd 2.0 and 'play' through.

I noticed that my MPEG files are usually vcd compliant in nero until I edit them with tmpg into two halves. At which point nero says they are not compliant, even though it lists the file with all the correct parameters!

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

  2. I'd suggest trying if you get better results by authoring your VCDs in VCDEasy (http://www.vcdeasy.org/).

By the way: Are you using a recent version of TMPGEnc? Some of the old versions corrupted mpg-files when cutting them, whereas the current versions don't have that problem (even though many people will say that TMPGEnc is not the world's best mpg-editor).

  3. ditto on vcdeasy. can't go wrong with running the mpg files and creating the image files through this program. also tells me if the files i'm trying to burn are incompatible and vcdeasy creates vcd/svcd cds that are more likely to work on most dvd players than nero.
