Hi all
I'm having problems with burning at the moment. The disc will appear to burn OK but when you play it, it will be fine for a while but then half way through it will start to stutter, jump etc This happens on all my players although some seem to cope with the problem better than others. The image itself is fine so it is down to the burning process (this has happened with various images, vob files etc so not a source problem)
Currently using a Samsung sata burner, Nero8 & RitekG05 discs
I'm going to try different burning software & discs & a new burner (Pioneer DVR-115 IDE ??) but rather than having to watch the same film over and over is there any software out there that can scan a disc and detect possible 'bad' areas ?
Thanks
Jim

It's your discs. It's your discs! It's those damn Ritek discs!
Do you understand now?
Take a look at http://www.nomorecoasters.com and learn why all media is NOT created equal.
Recent reports indicate that Ritek may not currently be even 2nd class media but worse.
The only DVDs that we can say with 100% certainly are consistently made with 1st class quality are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Even some of the other supposed "first class" discs like Sony and TDK are sometimes made by good manufacturers and sometimes by very bad ones.
Nero isn't your best choice for burning either. We generally recommend the free ImgBurn.
You can scan discs if you want with a variety of products (Nero will do it too), but many don't put a lot of faith in the quality reports anything produces. Some people think the reports are 100% accurate, but many are skeptical. I would just say use better media and don't worry about scans. -

It's all I've ever used to burn DVDs with. And I've only used Verbatim discs.
I've said it before...if I burn a coaster, it's because I did something wrong. I can't blame it on shit media or a half-assed burning engine.
Take those wild cards out of your deck. Use something proven to work the way it's supposed to. -
Chalk up another vote for ImgBurn software to use as your burning engine.
If your drive is 16x try burning at 8x or some other speed than max. As others have mentioned, don't skimp on the media. Some like to do other tasks with their computers when they burn. I don't, even though my rig is strong enough and will allow me to do so. I do not have any extra programs running and when I click the burn button I leave the machine alone until it is done.
Nero has a CD / DVD drivespeed test I think it is called that you can somewhat test the quality of your burns with. Throughput or speed test, forget what the exact name is. I don't use it but others here do. If your burner supports the program try KProbe to do quality checks after burning. I use it after every burn to check my discs. Use your burner when you quality check them, not a playback only drive. Good luck.
Cheers,
Rick
