I was wondering anyone has ever heard of or has any helpful information pertaining to damage caused to dvds after leaving them in binders for long periods of time. I have over 300 dvds that I have stored in a Body Glove binder (similar to Case Logic) and most of them are ruined and unplayable now. More specifically, for each dvd, there seems to be a small, spotty, abrasion that appears near the top where they stick out of the sleeve a bit. I've tried wiping them with a microfiber cloth and a mixture of alcohol and water but this doesn't seem to help. Any idea what this might be? I don't know if there is a chemical reaction occurring due to the sleeve material or if it is caused by excessive rubbing. I don't think the latter would be the case since I do not make a habit of pulling them out and putting them back in repeatedly. I also use good media (Verbatim) so I don't think is is due to cheap quality.

Any help or advice would be sincerely appreciated

I have used a mixture of media but they are mostly Verbatim (supposedly the best?). Been in storage for a couple of years

i've seen that problem with cds stored that way in a car. but that involves lots of vibration which probably caused it. without movement of some sort i can't see it being scratches.

Scratches and warping are caused by wallets.

i guess it could be the slight movements caused from opening and turning the pages of the album. it might caused the dvds to rub back and forth at the exposed edge. that where the damage was done in the car. it caused a "line" of micro scratches across the discs.

The only wallets I suggest are the ones made by Case Logic, in the two-high size (100-ish discs). The quad-page cases always suck if filled, and the singles can go both ways.

I have some cheaper cases that I can only fill half way, because they have a spine too narrow for the discs. Most of them I just gave away for CDs or even diskettes.
