im new to the dvd burning. i have a bunch of dvds i want to put on my harddrive while im serving time overseas. i have used a couple of dvd copiers, and would like to convert the video and audio folders into a playable file. maybe like an mpeg or something similiar.

i use windows media player and "play" vts_01_1 to play my dvd's. not a big deal, but im sure there is another way to copy or to convert it into a different format.

finally how are the dvd "movies" being made so small for psp? example, transformers takes up 7.54g, but on my friends psp it takes about 700mb? i have apprx 22 movies on my hard drive taking up almost 100 gigs of space.

any help is very much appreciated, as this and many other military members enjoy movie time after formation..

It's best to copy the entire dvd because you wont lose anything. Just use a software dvd player which can play dvds from the hd like mpc, videolan, just open the folder with the vobs and ifos. You could use vob2mpg and get one mpg but you will lose subtitles and you may get problems with dvds that has several audio tracks.

If you want smaller files like the psp movies you can reconvert to avi divx, xvid or mp4 h264 using AutoGK, FairUse wizard, DVDFab, etc. You can squeeze a 2 hour movie into 700MB with good quality.

thank you for the quick reply.
i open the VTS_01_0 VOB file with media player. it works fine, the movie, the subtitles, all the tracks ect. i do a full copy of the entire dvd.

is there a way to convert all the vob, ifo, bup files into one playable file?
example, i open the movie 300, and there is only 1 file to click and watch the movie?

trying to tell an infantryman to open VTS_01_0 with media player gets alittle hard sometimes.

i have read through many of the threads on this vast forum, and i have not found a direct answer to the ? i amasking, although i have found many new and great programs.

It's because you wont find any such tool. You can convert to one mpg with vob2mpg as I mentioned but you will lose subs, audio tracks, extra material. You can convert to an iso-file but then you can't play it directly with wmp. You can reconvert the entire dvd to the ratdvd format, one file and still keep everything, but it's a very slow process and ratdvd is also no longer updated so I wouldn't use it.
