I just got a cheap Acer LCD monitor for my file server room...nothing fancy. From BestBuy. It is model AL1716F. No matter whether it is plugged into the computer or not, when the unit first powers on I see horizontal lines moving all over the screen (and flicking on and off) with the screen looking, well, a bit crazy. After about 2 mins all is ok and LCD is fine....is this a major problem. Should I get a new one? I have always used CRT so I have no clue on LCD.

    thanks

Is the computer feeding it a VGA signal at 1280 x 1024 ?

If so and it still doesn't lock, take it back and have them try it.

They often fail to lock if not connected. Newer ones mostly blank the screen unless they detect a sync. "A few minutes" after connection doesn't sound right. Take it back.

I think I will....if I am not connected the Acer splash screen appears with all the horizontal lines and such....then it says no signal and of course blacks out. If I am attached with a signal, then the lines and flashing continues of a few mins and then all is ok...even if I leave it on all day and night....it is almost as if it cannot figure out what to do....but later does.

    thanks

  6. That sounds like a cold solder joint. Exchange it for another.
