Just gone broadband with NTL in the uk, and have signed up for a 512kbps account. I have just tested my connection speed online using Mcafee's internet speedometer
http://promos.mcafee.com/speedometer/
and it is registering as a over 1Mbps.
Is anyone elses connection registering faster than it is supposed to be, or have I just been lucky and been put on a 1Mbps connection for the price of a 512kbps connection.

Seems like were getting a pretty good deal then.
My brother in law has the 128k connection with NTL and he registers at around the 110-120k mark.

is the figure your talking about in Kilobit or Kilobyte?
there is a vast difference if there is.
If the figure is Kilobit, you need to divide the figure by 8 to get a kilobyte reading. You may be shocked at the results.

It is registering as just over 1 megabit/sec which I realise is approx 128 kilobytes/sec. My point is my connection is only supposed to be 512 kilobits/sec or 64 kilobytes/sec.

Is yours a 512k connection, if so it seems that if you go for a 512k connection your connection speed is significantly faster than specified. Like I said my brother in law has a 128k connection, and thats what it registers as.
I would be interested to hear what other peoples connections register as, and if it is faster or slower than what they are supposed to be getting.

I actually have no clue what the specified speed is for it.
