  1. I was always under the impression that the DIVX was close to DVD quality, can the quality be better than the bad ones Ive seen? So far, the SVCD has looked the best, of course the biggest files aswell.

  2. DivX can be far better then SVCD is, not can be, because certainly XSVCD can be quite good quality. However, I say DivX can be better simply because of the file you are viewing. It'll have to be relativlely big to be of good quality, say 850MB for a 2 hour or less movie. Just try and find the rips from disc and you'll see, later.

    Usenet is a very good source. alt.binaries.movies.divx is a good group to try. The best DivX is ripped (competently) from the DVD. And usually you can tell these because they come with a sample posted first so, you can see the quality before downloading and wasting your time.
