Encoding Problem

I cannot encode anything with the program. Everything looks right, all codecs are installed, but when I press encode, the progress screen flashes for a second and then closes and the program sits idle. I haven't found any posting that relates to this problem. It happens with converting AVI to any other type, I've tried all of them from the pulldown just to see if any would work. I'm new to this program so any help would be great.

The Log may hold clues to why a conversion failed. You may access the Log by clicking the blue "i" in the ffmpegX Progress window.
Based on any error found in there, fellow users may be able to suggest a fix.
