here is the situation and would love some help since I am quite frustrated.

I took a 441MB DVD VOB and used avi.net to compress and convert to AVI and the final product was only 27MB with good resolution and the audio/video was in sync.

now I wanted to trim the 27mb AVI just a little, so used avidemux2 (found on this site). It did a great job (does it frame by frame) and I saved it thinking it would produce another AVI file

however, it just produced a file with a "File" type. I can play it using Divx and even WMP. However, Properties show it just as a "File". I want to show it as AVI or DivX. What am i doing wrong?

purpose is to upload to youtube .

    thanks!!!

The program simply did not add the file extension , which is .avi

Simply rename the file and include the file extension , and its fixed .

AVI Demux has it's origins in the Linux world, where file extensions aren't as important as they are in Windows. You have to remember to put .avi on the end of the filename when you save it.

For now, just hit F2 (rename) and add .avi to the end of the filename in Windows Explorer.

thanks guys, I figured it out (feel a little silly since its so easy) but renamed it .divx which I did because i was using dr. divx to play it. I guess it could have been named .avi as well.

thank you guns1inger for the linux explanation, makes sense.

the tools used are quite good and freeware avi.net and avidemux2
