I have mpg1 and mpg2 video files. I need a program that will chop the large files up into smaller, PLAYABLE clips...each one saved as it's own mpg file. No recoding, no batch files, no extra anything to install in order to view the file. Just a simple program to slice and dice. I do not need any editing, authoring, etc. Only cut the files into smaller ones. I have searched up and down on this forum and tried installing some of the suggested software like mpg2cut2 or pvas.

This doesn't seem to do what I want (or maybe I'm just not getting it which is ENTIRELY possible)

Now, is there anyone who can help me, PLEASE???!!! Am I out of luck? Is there no software that can do this simple task?

  2. Womble MPEG2VCR or Video Wizard will do this, piece of cake. Or are you looking for free software?

mp1 is pretty much universally viewable without the need to install anything else. mpeg2 is not. Media Player Classic is a single executable file that will play mpeg2 video. VideoRedo will cut up and save individual segments as playable files with out re-encoding the entire clip. However if you are looking for something that will take a longer clip and simply give you, say, 5 minute clips instead - I'm not sure what might do that for you.

Thanks for the info! To ozy...I don't mind paying for software that will work. So, mpeg2vcr will cut up my segments without recoding? I will certainly try it.

To Slinger...I will try the videoredo as well. Thanks.

I like Womble, but it is closer to the NLE model, whereas VideoRedo is more like virtualdub in it's approach. Womble is more versatile, but VideoRedo might suit what you are trying to do better.

You should be able to trial them both anyway.
