  5. Need more details. Exactly what happens when "it doesn't capture anything"? Do you get some kind of error message? Click on "capture" and the camera doesn't respond, but it does to "play" "fast forward" and "rewind"? All frames are dropped and none captured? Appears to be capturing but when you're done there's nothing there in the file?

I can "play" "rewind" and stuff but when i go to capture video the timer keeps going and the camera keeps going but its not capturing ANY video. Sometimes the file will be 5kb and thats it but that file has no video on it.

  7. What brand/model camera is it? Also, can you play the tape on the camera and see the footage (maybe the problem is with the camera)?

  9. Or you on a blank portion of the tape (after the end of where you recorded, but playing blank tape)? When you play the tape (not capture, just play) can you see the footage?

Sorry if these sound like stupid questions, but sometimes we think there's a problem when there isn't really one.

  12. You need to try to isolate which component of the chain the problem is happening in.

Have you already tried turning the camera off/back on? Unplugging and reconnecting the firewire cable?

Can you "preview" the footage (play/watch it) in the capture application?

You know it's not the tape because you can watch it on the camera.

It may or may not be the cable, because you can control the camera via the cable, but maybe there's something wrong with the cable the prevents the signal from going from the camera back to the computer. Or a setting on the camera. I'm not familiar with that brand of camcorder. I also don't know enough about how firewire cables work, but it's a digital signal so you'd think that if the control signal could go one way then the a/v signal could go the other way.

Next is your capture settings. What hard drive are you capturing to? Your profile shows a 450GB drive so space shouldn't be a problem, but check anyway. Maybe the software is set to capture to your C: drive which is full? In Vegas you might have no drive at all selected to capture to. Or have you somehow set the software to capture in mpeg but you're feeding it a DV-AVI signal? Don't know if that's possible, but those are some of the next things you could check.

  13. Yo, slakker, any luck? Can we assume from your silence that you got it working? Hope so.
