  1. MTV has changed their channel MTVX to MTVjams.

MTVX was a all rock/alternative/metal station in the USA. Some people with digital cable could get it. I would have gottan digital cable just for that channel, but my parents didn't want to(jerks).

Anyways, even if you couldn't get MTVX add your two cents, and fight for the music you love (that is if you like rock).

  2. Sorry to be the one to break the bad news to you, but the petition will not work. If MTV was worried about losing the people who are going to or have signed the petition, they would not have switched the channel in the first place.

Rap/R&B is a part of pop culture currently, so MTV is cashing in just like everyone else. After the rap fad goes away (like disco), MTV will switch back, but until then, what sells, goes.

Like I said, I am sorry to say this, because I am a fan of rock music, and most stations are doing what MTV is doing. But, some day, rock will be back, and us die-hard fans will still be there to welcome it.

P.S. - I did sign the petition, though.

  3. Well, I hope we can get our channel back, I mean why not watch B.E.T. or normal MTV or MTV2 if you want rap/R&B.

I unfortunately have to agree - a petition is worthless. It's obvious that MTV has, for probably 5 years or more, not given a rat's arse about rock, metal, or classic anything.

MTV really has little do do with MUSIC even, the only thing to see there is "The Osbournes" (and I already lost interest there). MTV-2 was SUPPOSEDLY all music videos, and SUPPOSEDLY lots of music not fund other places (like metal videos from the past, alternative stuff), but look at it today - RAP RAP RAP RAP, every time I tune in.

I never got this MTV metal channel, I wish I had. Since I don't see any value in rap, people like me will simply not tune in, I guess (MTV does NOT care)...

    LOL Rap, a fad?
That was said back in the 70's when the Sugar Hill Gang released Rapper's Delight.
I agree with you though, MTV is just cashing in on the latest fad.
But it is true, rap is beginning to grate, even on me; a hard core Hip Hop fan. I couldnt give a crap about 99% of this commercial trite that most of these "Music" stations pump out. Even "MTV Base", a supposed Hip Hop and R&B station I find difficult to watch for more than a few minutes - I only manage to find something half decent late at night, for a couple of hours or so. So, even a hip hop fan doesnt see the value in the rap played by MTV.
It is a shame because MTV used to kick ass, now it is 99% trite, only Jackass is worth watching now. I seem to find myself watching "VH1 Classic" most times... I am only 21. :-\
I also like most other types of Music, you name it, I probably like it, and have got the CDs to prove it =). Yet when I watch any music channel, generally it is just your usual (latest) chart-friendly commercial drivel. The only consolation being that nowadays there are a lot more music channels than there used to be.
I rely on my CD collection, just a shame they dont contain the videos too.

  6. I should have clarified, most rap now is a fad. Like the "hair-bands" of the 80's (and I am a huge metal fan), Rap is become the fad of the late 90's and 00's. Most of these "gangstas" are nothing more then marketing gimmics and people looking to make a buck.

I have to say that there are some authentic and good rap groups, but once something original comes out, everyone copies it to death. Even white guys are rapping (and I don't mean Eminem). I can't dis rap too much because I do own some CD's (Wu-Tang, Dr. Dre, OutKast, Busta Rhymes, etc.), but it's been done to death.

The thing I find the most ironic is that Mtv refused to play Michael Jackson's video when they first came out because he was black. It took lots of popular white artists to boycott Mtv before they would play it. Now, it seems like Mtv won't show a video unless the artist is black (unless it's Living Colour). Don't post that I'm racist for saying "black" and not African-American. I don't even want to go there.[/i]

    100% correct.
Rap is more the commercial side of Hip Hop, and I agree with you, it is a fad.
I am more into the lesser known or independant lables, especially DJs like Q-Bert etc. I dont own one single record by Eminem, nor P.Diddy. Dre used to be cool, but now I couldnt even tell you what Dre's last record was called, so little do I care. Snoop Dogg has turned to crap, so have all of the other people in that group. Then you have all these new fools on the scene, talking about how many Bentley's they own, all the time. It seems the recipe for MTV air time, is a video that shows people going from one party to another, wearing way to much Jewellery (Mr T and RUN-DMC pioneered that in the 80's!), driving in a low rider, and some half naked women dancing between scenes. Lyrics should be easy on the kids, talking about owning a lot of money should suffice. After all, it is the women in the videos that people are really interested in.

  10. i wish someone would start a petition for a terrorist to fly a plane in to the mtv 1515 studios during trl... that would be so sickeningly sweet..

and i do agree, rap is a fad..
but you cant leave "rock" out of this.. rock is reaching its second evolution of "hair bands".. consider this for a moment.. you've got your "boy bands", no pimples, combed/conditioned hair, nice clothes, smell good, handsome/goodlooking/attractive & girl friendly.. its like almost every recent rock band out there nowadays is this way too.. they just used some of the left over boy band guys and put them in to a rock band.. and so there you have it, the "second evolution of hair bands".. we need to "keep it real" (thanks rap), with rock music..

i recently went to the pop disaster tour, oh yeah, that was yesterday... jimmy eat world, green day, and blink 182.. it was all bullshit, except green day.. green day rocked that ************ harder than johnny wad in a high school girls lockerroom on a meth death trip..

so as you may notice, i'm kinda losing the point of this.. but it remains.. the good rock will return.. wiggers will die, rap will subside, britney will get old and unattractive.. it will all be like it should for a while... oh, but then guess what? its gonna come back.. it always does.. what do you think makes this game so fun? we've got to have our enemies in all arena's of life, that is what it makes it so fun.. music is something almost everyone is passionate about.. its one of the rare things you can honestly and openly show emotion in public over.. that is why people are so fierce about it..

okay thats enough. i must be stoned, and i'm starting to rant.

  11. I was just thinking about this thread when I was listening to Pearl Jam's Ten this morning. It's hard to believe that the album is 10 years old. I guess it just goes to show that "real' rock is the stuff that will last the test of time, not what is on the charts now.

If you really think about it, ten years from now, what artists and bands starting out now will still be remembered? What music will still be played? MTV is just like most of the radio stations, they know that the music (if you want to call it that) being put out today will be gone within a few weeks. They are cashing in on the moment, and the worse part is, people are actually supporting them doing it.

You want to know something funny, MTV ran a R&B weekend this last weekend. This is not the only board where I post, and every board that I go to is sooooo pissed at MTV pushing this "crap" at us that they call rock, and MTV does this. Maybe it's time to really hit them where it hurts, in thier pockets! Like I said before, the petition will not work, but a boycott will. Don't watch MTV, don't buy MTV merchandice, and if MTV is mentioned in a conversation, then it is to be refered to as: "The channel that only 12-year-old girls and pedifiles watch." (Unless someone else can think of a better slogan.)
