Have you been able to play any divx videos?
How big are the mpg files? what extension are you using? .mpg?

the manual says it doesnt support divX files.. i am trying to burn them as .mpg and .mpeg and they vary from 86mb to 56...

It's mainly just DivX DVD Players that supports mpg file playback.
But the http://www.divx.com/products/hw/detail.php?p=344 says that it supports divx...? -
Unless your player supports content formats other than DVDvideo, you will have to author DVDs with your videos. DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+RW are writable media formats, not content formats.
Check the guides (links on the left) for how to author DVDs. -
It bothers me that the website says the following:
Direct playback of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files for playback versatility and convenience
This means it SHOULD work. I can suggest some reasons why it isn't working.
1) Unfortunately, Nero's default behavior is to NOT close anything it burns. If your discs aren't closed, that's a problem.
2) Unfortunately again, Nero also defaults to multisession mode. That is bad bad bad! It is totally evil! It should NEVER be the default. Very few DVD players can correctly read a multisession disc. If you are making multisession discs, I guarantee you that this is a problem. Also you should burn in Disc-At-Once mode and NOT Track-At-Once mode for best results.
3) Your player may not like your media brand. We don't know what you're using, so it's certainly possible.
4) It's unlikely, but you could be burning to some weird data mode like UDF 2.0 that is maybe causing problems for the player. -
ok.. but how do i burn it or with what type do i burn it with ... .mpg? or do i have to convert it to divx? or do i have to get a codec?

If it's homemade stuff, dvdauthorgui should do fine. But it won't take a muxed mpeg or vob.
EVO Demux would make a nice companion.
