Can anyone tell me why chapter names and the DVD title does not transfer when copying or authoring a DVD? I converted some old VHS tapes and authored using TMPG DVD Author 3.0, created and named chapters but when I bring the finished product up in WIndows Media Player, it comes up "unknown" DVD and the chapter names revert to back to "Chapter #." I've noticed on commercially created DVDs these identifiers are always visible.

    Thanks

    a) WMP is a pretty poor player for watching DVDs.

    b) Chapters don't have names in DVDs, only numbers. I have never seen a commercial DVD with named chapters outside of the scene selection menu, where the names are just text anyway.

    c) The name usually comes from the Volume Name, which is a function of the burning process - how did you burn your disc ?

Hey thx...yeah WMP does suk and I have looked at Windvd (unless you can recommend anpther) but didn't want to shell-out more bucks right now since most is going to authoring SW (TMPG has been incredibly good). Based on your comment I think WMP is probably downloading the info from a database, much like CDs so that would explain the named chapters.

Sounds about right. If you want a small, free DVD player, try Windows media Player Classic. There is also a good chance that PowerDVD came bundled with your burner or your graphics card. It will be an OEM version, but will cover your needs pretty well.

WMP's download facility is of dubious value, especially to anyone outside the US. I have several CDs that it has incorrect details for. Either the wrong order or different tracks because it assumes you you are a US citizen and only listen to the US release of a disc. Suprise ! - not everyone is and does.
