Hello all, I'm wondering just how much I can "flex" a DVD disc before the contents might be affected.

I've been repacking some of my DVD backup's from individual cases and paper envelopes into DVD cake boxes. One of my shows is 29 discs, which is far too few to fill a 50-disc spindle, but is just a couple too-many for a 25 disc spindle. If I put the 29 discs into the 25-disc cake box, I can get the spindle cover to lock, but I notice that it flexes the DVDs just a little.

So, is this a BAD thing? Will it affect the DVDs long term? What about the material recorded on the disc, how - if at all - would playback be affected?
    My gear:

    - JVC HR-S9911U SVHS VCR
    - Datavideo TBC-1000
    - JVC DR-M10 DVD writer
    - Sony Steadyshot DCR-TRV340 NTSC Digital8 Camcorder

A little flexing may not do any harm but continual forceful rubbing against each other as you try to force the lid on them may eventually scratch them all to hell.

    nathanaa,

What you're describing wouldn't be a good thing. Take a look at section 5.2.6 of this page from "Care and Handling of CDs and DVDs: A Guide for Librarians and Archivists".

Select which four you like the least and throw them away. Either that, or buy two 15 disk spindles - or another 25 disk spindle.

Remember that a DVD-R is just dye material sandwiched between two plastic disks "glued" together. Break that "glue" seal and your disk has become a coaster.

The disk is plastic and if you leave it in that case for a while it will get permanently deformed(bend) and that will cause all kind of problems in DVD player.
    It is a bad!!!! idea.
