A while back, I had an FM tuner plugged into the Line In on my Via Epia M10000; I was able to both listen and record using Audacity on this XP machine.

Well, I seem to have discombobulated something, or mebbe an update or somesuch did... when I plugged it back together again, I can record OK but have lost the monitor signal when doing so.

I've fooled around in Sounds and Audio Devices but can't seem to find the problem. I vaguely recall there was another window somewhere as well.

    any clue will do!

  2. When you double click the little speaker icon in the botton right (im assuming you have one), you get a control panel for various playback levels, if you click Options > Properties > Recording > OK, you get a panel for the recording levels, make sure line-in is not muted and the level is OK... Just a thought...

    hi,
if i understand correctly... you say you can record ok in audacity???

if you can, at least we know things are working...
so the question... now you refer to the monitor... what missing... is it the spectrogram in the audacity or you don't see your audacity volumn levels??? or are you missing things in your toolbar?

now sort of guessing here.... but i think your saying your normal display for the volum input has changed... if that is correct... in that upper right corrner where your volum input located you'll see a down arrow next to the microphone icon.... click the arrow and that give you the choice of volum level displays...

hi guys- I don't have a speaker icon in the bottom toolbar, I'm using the Sounds & Audio Devices in Control Panel.

Itsd not the display per se, its when previously I would turn on the tuner, I would hear the output thru the computer speakers, and could record it with Audacity. Now I can record it, but can't hear it simultaneously, if that makes it more clear...

I think I know what may have happened; I had to change out the modem card- looking under SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES PROPERTIES I see several entries like: Modem #1 (#5, #8 ) Line Record are now present (but not selected). Both Record & Playback have VIA AC'97 Audio (WAVE) selected.

Under HARDWARE it says that is working properly...

    Hi,
would suggest activating your speaker icon in the systra/notification area.... save you few steps .smile when ever you go to it.... when you go to the sound and audio inyour control panel just checkmark "place vol icon in taskbar"

in the same place under the advance button.... are the correct choice for speakers chosen....???

also in audacity preference>audio i/o check mark sofware play thru and see if that helps
