I have several movies backed up onto double-layer dvd+r (verbatim). I'd like to move my backups onto a hard drive so I can use XBMC as a dvd server. I'm having problems saving the movies back onto the hard drive. I'd like to have iso, but I can use vob also.

I've tried several different programs (dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, lciso, etc) and they hang in the middle of copying the data. I presume they're having trouble moving between the 2 layers. Is this a good assumption? Is there a way around it? The movies seem to play fine in the dvd player. thanks.

Try some other programs, or if possible try another DVD drive, that may work the best. Some drives have better error correction than others, especially with DL discs. You used the best discs out there though(Verb), not a good thing to hear that you can't read them. Make sure your drives firmware is up to date, not likely that will work, but it won't hurt.

I would recommend you to try using pgcedit with the add on tool's and plugins , and see how it gose .
It perform's all the required function's with a few click's once installed .

The issue may not be with the layer break , but may be related to the original structure , or the media it is on being the culprit .
