The ATI TV Wonder has worked for me. No problems with the hardware, although the software is a little flaky. You probably would want to get your hands on a copy of Cyberlink's Power VCR or Intervideo's WinDVR. If you want something inexpensive (I payed $95 CAD = $59 US) then that would be the way to go. If you're looking to spend more then you might want to look at Hauppage's products.

  5. I second that!. The WinTV GO is excelent.

    But use the drivers here:
    http://btwincap.sourceforge.net

Capture with VirtualDub at 352x480 with the Huffy CODEC, and encode off-line with TMPEG.

    The results are amazing.

  6. If you want to make vcd's there is no better Real Time card to use than the ProVideo PV-231 and 233. They use hardware compression where the ATI's all use software compression. I own a PV-231 and PV-233, and All-In-Wonder, and an ADS Instand DVD, but now use the PV-233 for all my captures. I also owned the new Creative Labs Digital VCR, but returned that due to many problems.

  7. yea i just noticed the real time part

so my answer was sorta morronic im afraid.
but yea if you insist on capturing in real time

and refuse to first capture in avi and afterwards convert to mpeg
then i second him on getting an hardware mpeg encoder card
as ive tried all the software real time software encoders and they are garbage.

i would go for capturing to a lossless codec like huffy, and afterwards convert to mpeg
it takes a bit more time but its worth it in the lnog run, great quality

    Good luck!
