What format?

DVD Shrink will do this very easily (Run an analysis pass to improve quality)
Also might wanna remove a few audiotracks (if there are foreign audio tracks you don't need).
You're gonna be compressing quite a bit though, so don't expect miracles in quality.
Alternatively, DVD Rebuilder (using CCE) will be better quality but takes much longer -
there's numerous apps that do just that, all you need to remember is that to go from an 8gb movie to a 4gb movie you need to reduce the bitrate by 50 percent. in other words, if you're 8gig movie has an average bitrate of 10Mb/s then to get to a 4gig movie you need to encode/transcode it to a 5Mb/s movie. depending on the starting quality of the movie you may be able to keep the resolution the same, use the same codec and just use less bitrate; for instance, i have a HD 1920x1080p 16:9 30Mb/s ts file that is such high quality i can reencode it to 15Mb/s 1080p mpeg-2 without any perceptible quality loss.Originally Posted by natty

There's a few guides here

This one looks pretty good - http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdrb.htm
You'll need CCE - which isn't free (DVD Rebuilder can also use other encoders, but if you're not going to use CCE, it's probably not worth the time to use DVD Rebuilder, and you'd probably be better off just using DVD Shrink) -
many thanks to you all you have been most helpfull its most appreciated believe me
