rather than going through the hassle of editing and splicing commercials isnt there a software available that would let you pause your recording while you fast forwarded through the commercials and then start it gain after you have done this?

I haven't tried yet but the new 2.54 version of tmpgenc can supposedly edit commercials out (see news section)

i'm not sure what you're asking. you can't pause TV or fastforward unless you've already recorded it.

but, some players do let you fast forward so you can zip through commercials.

however, once you've done it a few times, you can cut out the commercials with vdub very quickly.

i tried the new tmpgenc hoping it would work like vdub's editing, but it doesn't.
