    Hi all -

I have some home movies that I've taken from my vc into my computer as avi. I've been trying to convert these to a format that youtube will like. No matter what I've tried the video looks horrible on youtube. Last night I tried the Dr Divx. Converted the file and it looked great playing on my computer. Much smaller in size too. I upload it to youtube and it stinks. So I seek to know what is the best file format for youtube and the best program. If I use Dr Divx, what should I be doing to the video to make it look the best it can on youtube??

    Thanks

Well when you download from youtube it is in flv format so I guess it will be format flv, MPEG-2 Layer 3, audio 22050Hz 65 kb/s (1 chnl) and pic dimensions 320 x 240 format 4.3 this is my own average as per gspot report

There are few programs to encode in flv format ie Super,
shareware Total Video Converter, Allok flv converter, Sothink FlV encode and others

You might want to try uploading to www.Stage6.com

The quality is far better than what's on YouTube and it's by the folks from DivX Just keep in mind that it's an Alpha release, but if quality is what you're looking for, then it's worth your time to take a peek

And if you couldn't already tell from my shameless plug, yes I am a DivX employee...but my job is to be a "Consumer Advocate" of sorts, so if you guys have ANY concerns (good or bad) then let me know, and I'll bring it back to the team.

If you're really bored, I'd appreciate it if you guys took my survey =)

As I understand it youtube will re-encode even if you upload flv's encoded to their specs. Best you could do is resample the audio and resize the video yourself so as to use the best quality filters. Then encoded at the highest quality possible. Still probably going to end up looking like crap simply because FLV1's at the bitrates used do.
