I'm new to this program, which I've been told will easily let me do a task that I'll describe in a moment. Time zone differences make it difficult to get some 'How to' details from that particular expert right now, and I'm impatient to press on. So I'm hoping that someone with TMPGEnc experience can get me over the immediate hurdles please.
Briefly, I made a Video_TS folder using MemoriesOnTV, but it corrupted it in some way. (Keeps happening, erratically. Probably because of some bug in its menu section. I'm trying to sort that with Codejam.)
Anyway, the good news is that the MPG made from the VOB plays OK, sound and video. However, there's just one flaw that must be fixed before I can call it finished, and burn the DVD. (For that, I'll bypass MoTV and do it in TDA, another program I've just been introduced to.) The video is OK but MoTV has somehow lost the sound from just one clip. All that's heard at that stage is the music track.
I've opened up 3.0 XPress for the first time, started a new project, and used Add File to load the MPG. Using the Cut Edit tab I've identified the section (about 27 seconds) as frames 15068 to 15730. But what do I do next please?
Intuitively, I thought I should now OK out of that and go back and add an audio file. (With a view to adding that at the place identified.) I have already made a WAV that includes the correct sound (from both videoclip and music soundtrack). I made that using GoldWave to record a preview in MoTV. It's not exactly the right length, of course, but hopefully that won't matter too much.
But it appears that 3.0 XPress allows only video type files to be added, no audio types?
Do I somehow have to first convert my WAV or MP3 file to a 'video' type, like AVI?
And then what's the next key step to do the replacement please?
Any detailed advice would be much appreciated please.

* In TMPGEnc, use the MPEG TOOLS buttton on the main screen
* select the DEMULTIPLEX tab at the top
* BROWSE for your source file
* note the file names for output - video into an M2V file, audio into a MP2 file
* START the process
* load the generated MP2 file into Goldwave (converts to wave internally)
* edit your audio to replace the corrupt section
* save the file back out AS AN UNCOMPRESSED WAVE FILE
* use an audio converter (I recommend the BeSweet/BeLight combination) to convert the WAVE to a new MP2
* back into TMPGEnc, MPEG TOOLS again, select MULTIPLEX tab
* select your MPEG output format, BROWSE for M2V video and FIXED MP2 files
* START the process to join them back into a single file again

Trevor, you're a star! Thanks very much for that fast reply. Exactly the detailed level I was seeking. Just starting those steps now. Will report back when successful.
I was clearly on quite the wrong track

Success! That procedure worked pefectly, thanks again.
Hardest part was the editing in GoldWave, as I've never had to overlay a section with such precision before.
For me, that was a great introduction to 3.0 XPress. Hope you're around when I tackle my next project.
