  1. Hello, I have a Liteon 5115 DVD recorder. I subscribe to Comcast Digital Cable. I tried to record a program from Video OnDemand but the program is copy protected. However, the program is able to record on my Samsung VCR.

I was wondering if there is some way to hook the cable thru the VCR and digital cable box (Motorola) so I can record the program on my DVD recorder?

Oh, and the Liteon I have as a mono tuner Is there a way to pass the audio thru the VCT so i can get stereo?

Thankyou for your time. I am a noob, so please give me step by step instructions.

I believe that you can record copyrighted material from TV using a +RW or -RW (depending on what your unit accepts). Copyrighted materail is set to allow you to write once on a +/-RW, but not allow you to copy it again or to write using a +R or -R DVDR. I read this is my new DVDR Recorder manual, but I have not had the chance to try it.

Does anyone know if Ripping the resulting DVD-RW/+RW remove the copyright, so you can write it to a +R or -R to play on a normal player (most older players won't accept +or-RW DVDs.

That's probably a comcast error. It's not really protected.

  4. Try this configuration: cable. satellite box out to dvd recorder in. The connection YUV first priority if it doesn't have it then svideo the last choice is composite (one yellow RCA input). Sound would be white and red out to in. If your dvd recorder has timer for that input set the timer if needed. These dvd recorders don't have good sound only mpeg1 I wish they could record from the optical out.
If anyone knows of a dvd recorder that records with above configuration that can record the mpg2 or dolby sound please mention the brand name.

I have 2 LG recorders that record in Dolby Digital, according to their manuals : the single disc LGR435, & the 80GB LRH780. For some reason, these units seem to be available only in Canada, but the online manuals for several other LG units sold in USA and Europe all indicate the Dolby Digital audio compression format.

Actually, I have the impression that MOST name brand recorders sold in North America record in Dolby (with the notable exception of Polaroid, and perhaps Lite On)

  6. I really do not think its an error, some programs on Video On Demand have that stupid content broadcast flag. Since my VCR can record it but my DVD recorder cannt, i was wondering if I could pass the signal to the VCR and then record straight to the DVD recorder.

Anyone here have trouble recording programs off Video OnDemand from Comcast to thier DVD recorder?

I doubt passing through the VCR will fix the problem. Recording to a VHS tape first then playing back that VHS tape may work ... probably not.

None here and this includes recording THE SOPRANOS from Season 1 Episode 1 up to the end of Season 5 ... they did that (ON DEMAND) before the start of Season 6 and boy did that keep me busy recording all of that LOL

I've also recorded some SOMETHING WEIRD from ON-DEMAND and some movies that were in the FREE MOVIE section.

I don't have HBO nor SHOWTIME now (had to cancel to save money) but I recorded Showtime's MASTERS OF HORROR both live and from ON DEMAND and never had issues. The new season starts soon but damn no money for Showtime now

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder and I tried to record a Direct TV PPV movie and it wouldn't record. The DVD recorder said it was copy protected. It was an all day ticket so I had several chances to try again. The second time I tried I used an -RW and still it wouldn't record for same reason. In fact, I tried all formats, -R, +R, -RW, and +RW. No luck. So I finially hooked up my VCR recorder and recorded it to VHS tape. When I tried to then take the tape and copy it back to disc I encounterd the same problem. I figured it had copied the copyright code onto the tape. OK, I still have more chances for this movie. Since I was unable to get a copy of it on DVD disc I decided to go directly to the PC using a video capture card. Since the capture card was made by Aver I use their capturing software. No luck. Even their software prohibited me from copying the movie from TV. Well, I finally launched Video Studio and used there video capture feature. At last! I was able to get the movie captured onto my hard drive. Well, from there I simply loaded the captured video file into Video Studio Video edit mode and was able to make a clean DVD recording of the movie. Three weeks later I was in Wal Mart and they just happened to have a sale on this same exact move for only $6.88. So I bought it.

Since the no-copy flag is digital in nature, then I have to assume that passing the signal through your analog VCR will strip away the flag and allow you to copy the program. In addition, since I assume you'd be hooking the Comcast DVR --> VCR with a composite cable, there will be no copy flag to strip.

I'm not sure what you mean by a mono tuner in your DVD recorcer. (They have tuners?) If it has L-R audio connectors on the back, then it will probably record in stereo.

Faulty logic about the no-copy flag being digital in nature.

How do you think the DVD recorder said NO to it? With the HDMI cord that went straight from the digital cable box to the DVD recorder?

Do you see what I am saying?

A DVD recorder will say NO COPY and you are feeding it analog video be it composite, S-Video or component.

    So your logic is flawed.

Also you have no idea what a tuner is ... ???

That would be yet another analog video connection (RF cable from "wall" direct to the DVD recorder using the tuner built-in the DVD recorder).

You know the tuner ... like what a VCR has for direct RF input.

    Ha ha ha

    P.S.
I figure I might as well explain that the tuner in some DVD recorders will give you MONO sound even though the DVD recorder is technically recording a 2 channel "stereo" audio track ... it is still getting the audio from the MONO tuner.
