I have a home movie on a DVD. How do I extract a frame of my choice and convert to a photograph on my computer?

But keep in mind that it's just 720x480 px - hardly anything you'd print out larger than a stamp.

That's one way, but certainly not the most straight forward. I use PowerDVD. Just pause at the frame you want and snapshot the frame to clipboard.

Thank you, mats, I did try my PowerDVD first but for some reason I cannot get it to go frame by frame. I even went into Settings. I have paused the movie and then used my Screen Print button, but I cannot always be exact in obtaining a single frame of my choice for my print. MyPowerDVD is a new one and a neighbor told me it is not as good as the older PowerDVD. What do you think?

No, I don't think frame accurate snaps is possible with PowerDVD. I've been satisfied at what I could do with the pause function.
For frame accurate dumps I'd use VirtualDubMod.

You read my mind, Mats. VirtualDub was the first software I tried by it would not take a movie vob straight. I tried mpeg 4, converted by Nero, but that would not work either. I finally found the DGIndex software and the vob is transferred successfully, the movie starts and I can choose any frame I want. Ho! Do you realize how many frames there are to a movie, home movie or not? Chuckle! Takes me days to go through and try to find something nice to turn into a photo.

Wow! Mats, I noticed you mentioned VirtualDubMod. I had tried the plain, older, VirtualDub and looking at the software site, I noticed it was a trio of offerings in this new Dub. I downloaded the Mod and will have trying that one out. Thanks so much for your knowledge...................Derry Ann

The main diff is that Mod do read VOB (and mpg).

	Just for clarification...
VirtualDubMod is based on an older version of VirtualDub (1.5.10). The current version of VirtualDub is 1.6.16. VirtualDub-Mpeg2 has been kept up to date and can also open VOBs."Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Yes, Gadgetguy, I have been finding out that the VirtualDub Mod 1.6.0.0 Surround accepts my vob's. I worry about all of the warnings that show up in a separate form, though. The DGIndex is unusally good and worth an investigation.

Noted the more current date for the Dub, so I deleted my Dub and downloaded the more current model, 1.6.16
