  1. Ok I have a 25 minute avi file that according to virtualdubmod indeed has ac3 audio. The problem I am encountering is in using ifoedit. To describe all the steps I used are as follows:
encode the avi with TMPG into separate audio and m2v. Then I open virtualdubmod load the avi file, click select streams and it says ac3. So I click demux and it puts the ac3 file where I want it. After that I open ifoedit load the m2v in the video part and the ac3 file into the audio and then author. Now, the last part is where the problem lies, I open dvd shrink open the file, try and play it in the preview and there is no audio. Now when I play the avi file by itself it does have audio. Could it be an issue with ifoedit?

What happens if you play the DVD in IFOEdit's inbuilt DVD player (or alternatively DVD-playing software such as PowerDVD) ?

Also try right-clicking in the preview window of DVD Shrink. I'm pretty sure that there's a way to select the specific audio stream you want. I think there has either been a stream mapping issue with the IFOEdit authoring, or DVDShrink is defaulting to a different type of audio, or something.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. I tried playing it in another player and there was no audio. When I previewed it in shrink it would say in the right hand side "no audio". I'm befuddled as to why ifoedit isn't putting the ac3 in when I author.

    Just re-read your first post.

It may be an idea to encode video-only in TMPGEnc (since you're discarding the audio it creates anyway) and trying something like AVIDemux to get the AC3 audio out of the AVI. At least that may prove that virtualdub is causing problems trying to extract the AC3.

Alternatively try a different authoring software. That will tell you if IFOEdit is the problem or not.
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVDAuthorGUI is also free and has both good reviews and good support (the author is a member here). Of the trial/payware, I like TMPGEnc DVD Author.
    If in doubt, Google it.

@mmmbeer - I've moved this to the correct forum - could you please change the subject (edit your first post)?

    Thank You!

  8. Did you try muxing the Video and the AC3 audio and then test playing it? I'm not sure Ifoedit muxes in AC3 audio. At least in your case it seems to have failed.

One other possible problem, You do have a AC3 decoder installed that will play the audio? Can you demux the ac3 to a wave encode the wave with TMPGEnc and then mux with the video? or encode the video using the wave as the audio source.
