I'm trying to make a movie only backup of Herbie: Fully Loaded for the kids to use in the car dvd system.
Using Dvdshrink in re-author mode I can make a Movie only backup with no compression if I remove all but the English audio and remove all the subtitles. (leaving just the movie and the 5.1 English audio). The problem is whenever I play the backup disc the french subs automatically display and can't be turned off, even though I set shrink to remove all the subs. This occurs in all players I try the disc in. I opened the backup with Shink, and it showed the disc as containing just the movie and english audio with no subtitles just as I had specified.
I tried again using a RW disc, just to make sure it wasn't my mistake, and made sure that all the subs were unchecked, but still had the same problem.
Any idea what may be causing this?
Thanks for any help,
Roy

Try ripping it with ripit4me, then try again with dvdshrink...if that doesn't work use the ripped files with dvdrebuilder and in setup set it to remove all subs and all other non-english stuff. If it requires shrinking, using dvdrebuilder (default HC Encoder mode) will be slower but usually results in a better quality product because it is re-encoding not transcoding.

Thanks for the help,
However, before getting your reply I tried again with DvdShrink, this time removing only the extra soundtracks and leaving the subtitles intact (which still left enough space to back up with no compression). For some reason this solved the problem - very odd.
I've tried rebuilder before, but never really got the hang of it (which encoder to use, how many passes, etc). When I have the time I'm going to sit down and try to master it, since I have a lot of dual layer discs I want to back up, and some of them don't really warrant using an expensive DL blank.
As for backing up with Shrink - if there is no compression applied, is there still a quality loss?
Thanks Again,
Roy
